These absolutely fascinating reptiles are tough as nails, and can live more than 50 years in captivity.
Baby Snapping Turtles...also known as Snappers, really aren’t as scary as they look. If you get one as a baby you have a very good chance of it being friendly. Once the snapping turtle is familiar with you, it is actually a very nice, cool little turtle. With their dinosaur like appearance they have no problems in becoming the leader of the turtle tank. You can feed your common snapping turtle feeder fish or commercial baby turtle food.
Currently these little monsters are about the size of a U.S Quarter and they will grow around 1 inch per year. So common snapping turtles have lived to over 100 years and weighed up to 80lbs. Good clean turtle tank water is a must for snapping turtles. They do not bask a lot but should be offered a basking platform for when they do. Also you will want to be sure to provide them with a quality uva/uvb bulb for basking.
Be sure to wash your hands good with soap and water after handling your baby common snapping turtle. Remember turtles under four inches are for educational, scientific or export purposes only.
